Faan Wiki

The Faan Wiki is your pocket reference for Hong Kong Mahjong. It holds 50+ winning hands, each with tile graphics, its faan value, and a plain description of how it works.

Open it from the Wiki tab in the top nav. It has three sections:

  • How To — the rules of play, step by step.
  • Points — the searchable library of scoring hands (shown below).
  • Vocab — key Cantonese mahjong terms.

Finding a hand

Search by name or description, or narrow the list with the filters.

The Faan Wiki Points tab — searchable hands with faan values and tile examples

Filter by hand style

From the menu next to the search bar, choose the style your table plays:

  • Classic
  • New 6
  • New 18

These nest inside each other. Classic is a subset of New 6, and New 6 is a subset of New 18, so picking a broader style simply shows more hands. Each card's badges tell you which styles it belongs to.

Filter by category

The chips under the search bar group hands by type:

  • Win Actions
  • Set Type Hands
  • Special Tile Hands
  • Flowers & Seasons
  • Special Hands

Faan values

Each hand shows its faan — the score it's worth. What that pays in money depends on your game's stake and payment settings, which TileBuddy applies when you actually record a win. Adjust those in Settings.

tip

Tap a hand's tile diagram to open it full-screen and pinch to zoom in on the tiles.

Works offline

The wiki is built right into the app, so it works with no connection at all — handy at the table.

note

Because the wiki ships with the app, new content arrives when you update TileBuddy from your app store.
